ABOUT THE DEGREE PROGRAMS

01 COMPUTER SCIENCE

What is Computer Science About?

Computer science is the study of computers, computer software and computational systems including their theory, design, development and application.

Principal areas within computer science include Internet and web programming, mobile system development, data mining and machine learning, social networks, video game development, human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, database systems, programming languages, software engineering and theory of computing. Computer science incorporates concepts from mathematics, engineering and psychology.

Students complete coursework in algorithms, machine organization, programming language concepts, theory, computer systems and software engineering. Because of the tremendous impact computer scientists have on society, the curriculum also requires students to pursue studies in the social sciences and the humanities.

02 COMPUTER ENGINEERING

What is Computer Engineering About?

Computer engineering focuses on system, software and hardware aspects of computing, and includes programming and software engineering. Students learn about electronics, logic design, computer design and architecture, microprocessors, design automation, operating systems and software engineering.

Computer engineer's career opportunities are limitless and include working in the computer industry or with companies that integrate computers into more complex products.

03 ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

What is Electrical Engineering About?

Electrical engineering is the design and analysis of any device or system that uses electricity or electromagnetic radiation, including computers and the networks that connect them; consumer electronic goods like MP3 players, satellite radio and HDTV; power generation and transmission systems; wireless cellular and wireline telephone networks; integrated circuits and electronic devices; electronic motors and actuators; MRI and other medical instruments, and more. The variety of challenges facing our modern society means that electrical engineers can look forward to highly rewarding, dynamic careers.

The program of study leading to a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering reflects the breadth of the profession. Students complete coursework based on a solid background in math, physics and basic engineering sciences. The program includes a variety of practical design experiences in well-equipped laboratories. Because of the tremendous impact electrical engineers have on society, the curriculum also requires students to pursue studies in the social sciences and the humanities.
