Stellar Engineering

Abstract

Stellar Engineering was tasked to design Broadview Heights, a LEED Gold 55+ housing community with a density between 25 and 35 apartment units per acre in buildings between 4 and 6 stories. The apartment units were to be a 60:40 mix of 1- and 2-bedroom units. We created multiple reports to summarize findings made in the due diligence phase such as ownership, zoning, interests in the surrounding area, and any environmental concerns. Throughout the past couple of months Stellar Engineering’s members worked individually on designing many aspects of the proposed site while supporting each other when necessary. Team member Rafael designed the HVAC system that would provide heating and cooling to the buildings, the storm water drainage in order to direct water to one of the multiple tension ponds around the site, and the water and sewer system that would provide water to the residents and remove waste. Team member Alan designed the structural aspect of the building in order to ensure that once built the building would be able to support itself as well as everything within it.  Alan also designed the landscaping required to ensure the proposed site would be appealing to those who saw it. Team member Nick Musick designed the transportation aspect of the project, working on items such as signalization and travel routes throughout and around the site to minimize any traffic impacts that the proposed site may have had. Team member Vanessa worked on the foundation design for the project in order to ensure that the proposed site could be supported without the risk of settlement.
